Public Works Director, Woodbury, MN (pop. 70,559). Woodbury, incorporated in 1967, is one of the fastest growing cities in Minnesota, and the 9th largest city in the state. Over the past three decades the population has tripled, and is expected to exceed 85,000 by 2040. As the economic hub of the Twin Cities east metro, Woodbury is well known as a healthcare and retail destination with a diverse economy of many growing business sectors, including finance, light industrial, office/showroom and distribution.

Woodbury’s long-serving Engineering and Public Works Director retired mid-summer 2018. As a result, and coupled with the growth and development of the City and its infrastructure, the engineering and public works functions are being divided into two departments. Each new department head will report to the City Administrator. An Engineering Director was recently hired.
The Public Works Department will include the Parks & Forestry, Streets and Stormwater, Fleet Services and Utilities Divisions. The Director’s responsibilities are wide ranging, and include managing the City’s street, stormwater, parks and forestry, potable water, sanitary sewer and traffic control infrastructure systems. The Director also provides oversight of the acquisition, maintenance and replacement of the City’s equipment and rolling stock.
Woodbury is a full-service city. In addition to Public Works, services also include Public Safety (Police, Fire, EMS), Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Community Development, Information & Communications Technology, Finance and Administration (HR, legal, clerk). The Public Works Director is responsible for leading a department of 65 full-time and part-time employees, as well as managing approximately $22 million in operating, capital and enterprise budgets. The position reports to the City Administrator.
